@coolbeans the intersection of an ever-shifting identity, anxiety, and just needing a word by which people can refer to you is often quite confusing!

@coolbeans yea i think it's more about pacing and practical examples than just reading a bunch of relevant info as fast as possible. how to actually put that into practice though i have no idea

@coolbeans uhh ive had limited success in the past with flash card apps (namely anki) and grammar books, just reading like 1 or 2 sections a day but it's not very fun.

other than that, just reading things and literally looking up every single word i don't know, but making no effort to actively memorize them. honestly i don't know how effective that is but at least i don't get burnt out on it very fast.

i only ever really focused on learning to read though cause books and wikipedia are the most fun to me, little to no interest in actually speaking

also looking at this entirely from the language learning perspective cause i think that's what you were talking about

@coolbeans honestly at that point just switch to metric. im tired of trying to explain that that's 12 inches in a foot and therefore 1.5 foot and 1'5'' are not the same anyway

@coolbeans next up, acres, which were defined as "the area an ox could plow in a day"

@coolbeans like the chnise measurement system, where their "foot" equivalent was standardized to one third of a meter
